A Monday Memory....

This photo popped up on the site "Do You Remember" on Facebook this morning.
"Why yes, yes I do" I said aloud.


I also remember my Thumbelina doll and Bride doll. 




I had a "Revlon" doll, similar to the one above, who later became known as "the broken leg doll."
She did indeed "break" her leg and had to go to the doll hospital.
I still have her, but sadly the leg is yet again broken.

I was also among the first in our generation to receive a Barbie doll, later followed by Ken, Midge and Skipper.  
There seem to be many discussions today about dolls and body image.
I'll be honest.  In my mind, Barbie was a doll.  Period.
I didn't think she represented an actual person.
I just liked dressing her up and doing her hair.

The Barbie House offered me hours and hours of enjoyment, arranging and rearranging the furniture. 
Guess that's where my interest in decorating began.

First attempt at growing radishes.  Not bad....
 These angels helped celebrate Father's Day with Grandad by hitting the bay beach.




The Englishman surprised me with a most appropriate "Welcome" sign for our house - including a tiny replica of the always much desired bone by our two boys.

A Monday Memory....

Anyone remember these?
I came across this photo recently and it brought back such memories.

Gerber and Beech Nut were the brands of baby food served up to millions of us during the fifties and beyond.  I was raised on them, along with my siblings, and spoon fed them to my girls.

As a teenager, my absolute favorite was Gerber Junior Banana Dessert.
When I was in the hospital for a few surgeries and an accident, my parents would bring me several jars to stash in the cabinet next to my bed.
I ate countless jars of the stuff.
For years.

suspect I know why.
It must have been loaded with sugar!

I had read years ago that added sugar was more for the sake of the parents than the child, 
knowing Moms generally tasted the stuff while trying to entice baby to eat it.  
The more the Moms liked it, the more they would buy.
Now I see that many of the baby food products are "unsweetened."
That's a better, healthier choice.

These days, when I do have fruit, it is in its natural form.
My age and blood sugar levels have made that a necessity.

Oh, but I did enjoy that banana dessert....
