A Monday Memory....

Source: Pinterest
I suspect there aren't many of you who remember this.
When we were kids and would venture out to public places, our mothers would direct us to crawl under the bathroom doors
in order to save the dime.
And heaven forbid you came out of the stall and let the door slam shut! Even strangers would admonish you for that!!
I suspect that's where the expression "spend a penny" comes from in England - having to pay to use the toilet. (The first time I went to England I noticed many of the bathroom stall doors went all the way to the floor which would have made our "crawl" impossible.)
If this practice was ongoing today they would have install credit card readers since many people no longer carry change!

A Monday Memory....

Anyone remember making one of these "pocketbooks"?
These were popular in my high school, way back in the early 1970's.
A friend made me one for my birthday - using an old metal lunchbox, pasting it with sayings and photos cut out from magazines and newspapers, sealing it with a clear finish, then lining it in felt.
It held quite a bit but was awkward to carry
when rushing to class with an armful of books.

Does anyone still "decoupage" these days?

Wednesday's Wisdom....

"Some people think that you have to be the loudest voice in the room to make a difference. That is just not true. Often, the best thing we can do is turn down the volume. When the sound is quieter, you can actually hear what someone else is saying. And that can make a world of difference."

But did you know it can make you fat?
Check out the fabulous blog post below from Susan Branch with loads of tips on how to decrease your stress and improve your life.
It's a bit long, so "grab a cuppa" as they say in the UK, and settle down for a lovely read.

Tip for a Tuesday....

Take a shopping bag....
I first heard of the practice of bringing your own shopping bag from my mother-in-law many years ago. She always took her own bag when she would walk into town to do her shopping.

These days, many areas are starting to ban plastic bags in stores. I keep three canvas shopping bags in my purse which fold up nicely and are lightweight.  I'm happy any time I can reduce my use of plastic. Give it a try - it's easy peasy!
