Remember pay toilets? And how no one paid any attention to signs such as this?
In fact, I can remember women would yell at you if let the door close without holding it open for the next person.
And being chosen to scoot under the door to save money. Ugh.
When I first went to England, I noticed that the doors to the public toilets were but a couple of inches off the floor and thought that would certainly have stopped us in the US from slipping under.
The phrase "spend a penny" in Britain referred to the use of coin operated boxes on public toilets. Thankfully we no longer need to do that on either side of the Atlantic.
