Wednesday's Wisdom....

This time of year, with the anniversaries of losses of many of my loved ones and friends, as well as the holiday season, can bring difficult moments. I have found the passage below to be helpful.
I share it in case it helps you too.
As Queen Elizabeth said, "Grief is the price we pay for love."
So if we have loved deeply it stands to reason we will grieve deeply.
I treasure the "scars" (see below) I have earned from the love I have felt for so many.

Tip for a Tuesday....

Put your name on the gift list!
Many, many years ago a wise woman directed me to always purchase a small gift for myself on my birthday and at Christmas. She said that way, no matter what gifts I received or didn't, I would have one thing I really wanted and would feel content.

Some years I may have purchased for myself a new sweater or a tiny bottle of fire engine red nail polish. The actual gift itself wasn't as important as the act of doing something just for me.

 Why should we do it?
Because as the advertisement used to say...

Because I'm worth it!

Thursday's Thought for the Day....

The opening monologue of this film always brings tears to my eyes....

Prime Minister: "Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often, it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know, none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that love actually is all around."

A Monday Memory....

"Straighten up and fly right!"
"straighten up and fly right:
Fig. to improve one's behavior or attitude and perform better. (Originally referred to an airplane.) If you want to keep out of trouble, you had better straighten up and fly right. Straighten up and fly right or I will send you to the principal."

Sound familiar?
I frequently listen to Nat King Cole while working in my kitchen. Hearing this song suddenly brought me back many years - it is an expression my parents would use as my siblings and I were growing up. It was usually their final pronouncement when discussing our unfavorable behavior and was always preceded by the words:
"You better...."
